Additional self-service controls, faster restore from cloud storage

MailVault v4.3.18 is available.

This release contains:

  • Controls to allow self-service for end users – to restore and forward email
  • Skystore – restoring mail from cloud storage is now much faster
  • Usernames and email addresses can now contain some characters not allowed previously
  • Minor fixes and enhancements

Based on feedback from some of our customers, we have enhanced self-controls that administrators can apply for end users. You can now allow or disallow users to forward or restore their own email.

For on-premise user’s of MailVault, it’s SkyStore functionality allows you to save a copy of your archived email in the cloud securely, while keeping a complete or partial (to save on local storage requirements) backup locally. This release speeds up restoring email from the cloud – significantly.

Your email. Backed up in your own cloud storage account.

MailVault v4.3.3 is available.

We said we’d have interesting things happening in the v4.3.x series…

This release contains:

  • SkyStore now allows you to use your own cloud storage accounts
  • MailVault is available in German language too
  • Other minor fixes and enhancements

MailVault’s SkyStore functionality allows you to save an additional copy of your email in the cloud. You could use our fully managed service, or simply use your own cloud storage accounts. MailVault supports AWS, Azure and other services.

Why use cloud backup? Cloud storage technologies are designed to store data securely for the long-term and make for reliable backups that can scale almost infinitely.

MailVault’s cloud email backup features goes a long way towards making your email archiving substantially disaster proof, without having to incur the upfront expenses of hardware, worry about routine maintenance, and the overheads of additional administration.

With access control rules, retention and ageing policies, an organization can have safe and flexible storage policies.

Meanwhile, to our friends in Deutschland, we’d like to say: Hallo und Guten Tag… 🙂

Core updates, simpler Active Directory, Password policies and more…

MailVault v4.2.40 is available.

This release contains:

  • Core packages and libraries updated
  • Active Directory & LDAP usage simplified (for user import and authentication)
  • Password policy functionality added
  • Optional size limits for indexing message body and attachment data
  • JVM configuration via the Settings UI
  • Cloud storage enhancements
  • Faster startup after an abrupt shutdown
  • Minor fixes and enhancements

The latest release has updates to it’s core packages and libraries (downloaded automatically via an intermediate update v4.2.38).

Active Directory and LDAP usage functionality has been simplified dramatically making it much easier for administrators to integrate MailVault with their company authentication and directory services.

Those of you who needed to explicitly layout a password policy, can now do so.

Mail volume and mail sizes continue to increase. Large attachments not only increase data transfer, but also use up indexing compute power (and increase index sizes). Often indexing the entire attachment is not necessary. Admins can now set a limit (if required) on the amount of data MailVault should index from mail attachments.

Sometimes we may need to change the Java Virtual Machine’s (JVM) default memory settings – this can now be done conveniently from the Settings UI itself.

MailVault tries to automatically recover from errors that may occur. Abrupt (non-graceful) shutdowns may leave the indexes in an inconsistent state. If the index size is large, the recovery process takes time, thus slowing down the MailVault startup – this has now been refactored to allow for a much faster startup after an abrupt shutdown, thus letting you get to work at the earliest.

MailVault supports Single-Sign-On for Office 365

MailVault v4.2.35 is available.

This release contains:

  • Single-Sign-On support for Office 365
  • Enhanced auto-recovery in case of configuration corruption
  • Other minor fixes and enhancements

Organizations using MailVault to backup and archive email from Office 365, can now allow their users to single-sign-on by authentication against O365. And user management is made simpler by allowing MailVault to directly import users from O365.

Power failures, disk crashes and even user-errors can sometimes cause file corruption. When configuration files get corrupted, they affect the running of the software. In such cases, MailVault auto-recovers to older, working configurations. This release enhances the auto-recovery process to give you an even more robust working environment.

  • Incoming email filters allow multiple clauses
  • Default filters are applied after user-defined filters
  • The HTTP proxy now supports authentication
  • Other multiple fixes and enhancements

This significant release of MailVault introduces SkyStore, a managed cloud storage service, allowing MailVault users to have an additional and reliable backup, offsite, for their valuable email. New activity indicators for email retrieval, indexing and SkyStore upload have been introduced.

This release also adds multi-clause filters to provide you with even finer grained control over which email you may want to keep out of the archive system (think promotional email, mailing lists, etc.). Also the user-defined filters now run before the default filters are applied.
